Sail the warm waters of Lake Erie!!! The Port Dover Yacht Club invites you to join one of our many nautical courses. Check out our dinghy programs for youth and adults which take place at the Port Dover Harbour Marina, 50 Passmore Ave Port Dover, Ontario in partnership with Norfolk County. The certified adult keelboat program takes place on our beautiful 30-foot sailboat Genesis. Discover the thrill of mastering the wind and the waves, no matter what your age.

CanSail Youth Dinghy

This is our full day program running Monday to Friday 9 am to 4 pm. We run introductory classes (CanSail 1) up to CanSail 4 which follows the curriculum set by Sail Canada. Students can register in one-week increments. Each week is multi-age, multi-level. Senior youth are encouraged to register for the weeks designated as CanSail 3 and 4. Discover Sail Youth

This is our fun-oriented two-day introductory program aimed at kids aged 7 to 13. This is offered at the low price of $99. Every effort is made to ensure students will spend time on the water and get comfortable with the motion of the sailboat. WARNING: Your child may become addicted to sailing and may exhibit behaviour such as wearing an eye patch and saying AARGH whenever near the water. Instructor-In-Training

This is a program designed for students wishing to pursue the instructor stream in the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) athlete development program. PDYC Sailing School would like to encourage our youth to consider sailing as a lifelong sport through competition and/or instruction. Students are required to commit to 15 hours of instruction assistance which includes helping teach, supporting other programs as well as some boat maintenance. This includes introduction to both boat maintenance and safety as well as some coaching tips PREREQUISITES: First aid, PCOC, VHF radio licence (preferred) and must be at least 14 years of age with signed parental consent.

One-day orientation workshop will be held June 27th from 9am - 12pm

PDYC Sailing School Race Team

This fun-filled class will provide opportunity to learn race tactics, how to helm, racing rules and more. Designed for youth aged 13 and registered in CanSail 3 and up. This will run Tuesday nights from 6 to 9 pm from June 4 to Aug. 13. Please note this does not include separate regatta registration fees as they apply. This is subject to approval by the head coach.

Spinnaker and Trapeze

Applied Skill Consolidation Spinnaker 1 – Introduction to spinnaker. Spinnaker 1 introduces sailors to spinnaker work, doublehanded sailing teamwork, and a doublehanded sail plan. Sailors continue to refine boat handling, tactical, and strategic skills while learning spinnaker skills. Sailors participate in one to two-day local regatta. · Relation to LTSD – Learn to train stage Trapeze 1 – Introduction to trapeze. Trapeze 1 introduces sailors to trapeze work from both the helm and the crew perspectives and focuses on the teamwork required to successfully execute these skills. Sailors continue to refine boat handling, tactical, and strategic skills while learning trapeze and teamwork skills. Sailors participate in a one to two-day local regatta. · Relation to LTSD – Learn to train stage Spinnaker 2 – Integration of spinnaker into racing. Sailors refine spinnaker skills, doublehanded teamwork, and doublehanded trim while integrating these skills into a competitive setting. Sailors participate in a one to two-day regional or provincial regatta. · Relation to LTSD – Learn to train stage Trapeze 2 – Integration of trapeze into racing. Sailors refine trapeze skills and doublehanded teamwork while integrating these skills into a competitive setting and with spinnaker if applicable. This is only one of two sessions this summer for this program. PDYC Sailing School is excited to welcome new coach Abby Brown who will be teaching this program.
